Help me give my students the joy of reading. This is a diverse array of books to peak the interests of multiple students. They are constantly requesting new books, especially the Wings of Fire series!
My students are a very diverse group. We hail students from over 32 countries with needs as varied as their languages. The school has a free/reduced lunch rate of 52%. They are a special group that thrive on learning new things.
Middle schoolers are a curious group by nature, but truly we learn more from them even though we are the educators.
There are a lot of needs to be able to keep up with their eagerness, and the funds are not available in our urban community. One of the greatest needs is Books. We would appreciate any help that you can provide to out students!
My Project
This project is about building a middle school library up a bit with current books. They love series such as the Wings of Fire, and anything by Rick Riordan. The students are constantly looking for new recommendations of books they can see themselves in. The budget for the library comes from out PTO (Parent Teacher Organization), so the amount of books we can acquire is a minimum.
Our district is attempting to improve reading levels of the students, and the best way to do so is through books they enjoy.
Reading is such an important skill that drives the rest of our lives. My students love finding new books to escape in, and learning about different places. I think it is important to build on what they know and to branch out to other adventures!
