My Students

Second grade students are curious and have a love for learning how things work and how they are put together. They are so excited to learn about the world around them and have so many questions about their environment. They love reading! Many of them don't get the chance to travel anywhere outside of their neighborhood or small town. I try to help them understand that they can experience things outside of their environment by reading about them and using their imagination while reading.

As a teacher I feel it is my responsibility to provide all types of learning activities for my students to keep them excited, focused and engaged in school.

My class is in a small school with a high percentage of students who are on free and reduced lunch. The teachers at the school work very hard to create a wonderful learning environment where students are encouraged to explore the world around them through books. Books can take you places in your mind that you may never get to actually travel to.

My Project

My students love to read! I try to foster a love of reading with my students. My classroom library has been well used over the last 10 years. Some of their favorite book series such as Dog Man, Diary of the Wimpy Kid, Junie B. Jones, and Bad Kitty are in bad condition and cannot be repaired. These are the books that they all want to read. It upsets me and my students when the books have pages missing and covers torn off.

I would love to replace these books and see the joy on their faces when they see books in our classroom library that are in good quality!
