"There is more treasure in books than in all the Pirate's loot on Treasure Island" ~Walt Disney
My room is full of inquisitive students.
Our classroom is an ever changing environment as we strive to reach Common Core standards while still enjoying the process. One of my greatest goals is to help my students learn how to further their learning by asking their own questions and also how to seek the answers.
I teach at a Title 1 school and my students are amazingly determined. We have adopted a growth mindset this year which states that anyone can learn anything. Students truly take this to heart and rise to each and every challenge they encounter.
I want to empower my students to become lifelong readers no matter what their current skill level is. School is a level playing field for them and they eagerly take advantage of the support and wealth of knowledge they receive. In my room, we focus on learning while having fun. We love to laugh and explore concepts authentically. I seek to create lessons and design activities that my students will enjoy.
My Project
My students need a fresh, updated set of nonfiction books for our classroom library. With these engaging books students will WANT to visit our classroom library and leave with a book they will both enjoy and learn something from.
Nonfiction reading is a vital skill for today’s students.
More than ever students need to be exposed to nonfiction text and know how to seek and find useful information. We live in an age where it isn’t about memorization, but knowing how to ask good questions and processing the skills to what you need. With this diverse, differentiated set of nonfiction books my students will learn how to become accomplished researchers!
