My Project

My third grade students attend a very small, rural Pennsylvania school. Our teachers embrace this rural advantage and make the effort to break the mold of the traditional classroom setting by connecting our students to their community and utilizing the plethora of resources that our country setting provides us.

As we all know, public school budgets are under more strain than ever before.

There is such a demand to meet the emotional, behavioral, and academic needs of our students, and the funds to support extracurricular learning just aren't readily available. Science is a passion of mine, and we need to teach our youth to be creative, progressive thinkers to become advocates for Mother Nature. My favorite science adventures are traveling through the United States National Parks!

This year my students began a cross-curricular National Park project that introduced them to the independent research process. This project introduces them to narrative and performance research skills that they will need as they transition into fourth and fifth grades. I'm asking for two realistic fiction book sets for my students: The National Park Mysteries and Campground Kids Adventures. It is my hope that these books will allow them to connect with their parks on a deeper level and fully immerse them in life across our country from the comfort of their seats. I especially love that these books are written from a kids' perspective, allowing them to experience the adventures right along with main characters that remind them of themselves.
