My Project
As a school-based speech-language pathologist, I serve students with a wide range of communication needs. Some of the most challenging cases involve students whose speech is so unintelligible that it affects not just their academic performance, but also their ability to interact socially and express themselves confidently. These students deserve specialized, research-based support tailored to their unique challenges.
This project will fund the Hodson Kit, a comprehensive set of materials needed to complete an updated professional development course on Evaluating and Enhancing Children’s Phonological Systems Using the Cycles Approach.
The course, found on speech pathology.com, includes 16.5 hours of continuing education focused on the evidence-based Cycles Phonological Remediation Approach.
The kit includes:
• HAPP-3 Assessment Tool – to identify and analyze phonological patterns
• Targeting Intelligible Speech – to guide therapy planning and implementation
• Evaluating & Enhancing Children’s Phonological Systems (Textbook) – the core content for the course
I’ve successfully used the Cycles Approach in the past, but it’s been several years since I’ve targeted this type of phonological disorder. I’m pursuing this updated training to ensure I’m using the most current research, tools, and strategies when working with my students. The Hodson Set is essential to fully participate in the course and apply what I learn with fidelity.
This project supports my ongoing commitment to providing high-quality, evidence-based therapy. By revisiting and refining my knowledge of the Cycles Approach, I’ll be better equipped to serve students with highly unintelligible speech—helping them become more confident and effective communicators. Your support will directly impact my ability to deliver targeted therapy that meets these students’ specific needs.
