About My Students
My students are talented young adults who dedicate their time before and after school to our Jazz Ensemble. We participate in two competitions each year; one for New York state and one in the Northeast Region. We are planning to attend a festival in Hershey Park, Pennsylvania in the spring and my guitarists are struggling with the guitar we currently have. It is old and in need of several repairs. We are constantly changing strings and doing other repairs but my lead guitarist is such a hard working young lady that she deserves a new guitar.
My 7th & 8th grade clarinetists are struggling to get a quality tone from their instruments and it's because their mouthpiece is a student model piece of equipment (beginner level). As clarinetists advance in their learning their mouthpiece selection becomes a vital part to their success, especially in the upper register.
In Their Own Words
We are struggling clarinetists who really want to succeed except we don't have the right mouthpiece for our instrument. We are using the same mouthpieces we got when we were beginners and now our needs have changed. We need amore advanced mouthpiece to make a better sound in the upper register of the clarinet.
We have been researching mouthpieces and reading many reviews to find the best one to overcome our challenge. We have discovered that the Yamaha 4C mouthpiece is a great choice at an extremely reasonable price. If we pair it with the Rovner ligature, we will give ourselves a better chance to succeed while we learn high school level music in a middle school band.
If this project is funded it will allow us to learn more difficult music and have a better chance of success. We want to set ourselves up for the best possible spring concert we can do. It will take time to get used to these new mouthpieces but we are ready to make the change!
