My students need a wireless microphone system and speakers to improve our rehearsal efficiency. Students will be able to hear instructions given by coaching staff, metronomes, and other devices used in our outdoor rehearsals.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our high school is a Title I school that serves the communities of Shafter and Buttonwillow, as well as the surrounding rural areas. The students at our high school take great pride in representing their community and have some of the highest rates of student participation in extracurricular activities in our school district.

Our high school band is the premier performing ensemble at our high school and includes students in the drum line, concert band, and color guard.

The students perform as an entire unit throughout the fall semester as our high school band, then break off into their respective groups and perform separately throughout the spring semester. Throughout the school year, these students represent the community at competitions throughout the San Joaquin Valley, and on the world stage at venues such as the Pasadena Rose Bowl and The Disneyland Resort.

My Project

During outdoor rehearsals, students often struggle to hear directions given or electronic aids being utilized with our current setup, and as a result our group's ability to rehearse effectively greatly diminishes. This equipment will allow all students to hear metronomes, chromatic tuners, and instructions given by coaches during our outdoor rehearsals. The ability to rehearse efficiently will allow our high school band to reach their greatest potential and enhance the experience of all students. In addition, this equipment can also be utilized during our concert season to amplify student performers or concert MCs in an outdoor concert setting.
