Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a motivated group of 6th, 7th and 8th grade Dual Immersion students at a K-8 school in California. A high percentage of my students are English Language Learners and come from low-income households. For many of my students, they will be the first in their families to attend college and have bilingual language skills.

My middle school bilingual science students are eager to engage in Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) hands-on 21st century science experiments and experiences.

Middle school is a springboard for student success in high school and a precursor to college admission and achievement. I push my students to engage in higher-level thinking and problem-solving. My goal is to inspire these young minds to pursue their dreams in higher education and beyond! This project will help us in our pursuit of scientific inquiry and problem-solving.

My Project

Our middle school science class adopted a 6-year-old Red Eared Slider turtle from a student whose family could no longer afford the expenses. Yoshi the turtle arrived in a 10 gallon tank, but her size requires at least a 50 gallon tank, a climbing apparatus, a UV light set up, and a large water filter.

Please support our science classroom by helping fund the expense of our new adopted turtle and aquatic ecosystem habitat.

My students are eager and excited about creating an aquatic ecosystem that will thrive with plants and fish to create a multi-level trophic system. Your donation will help us provide a better habitat home for our 6-year-old turtle, plus create a self-cleaning system with plants and filter fish.
