My Students

I am so excited to introduce my students. They are eager learners who love to participate in hands-on laboratory activities. It is vital that these students have access and opportunities to learn by doing. This is how they learn.

My school is a Title-I school where all students receive free breakfast and lunch.

Their learning opportunities are limited to the resources and experiences they have access. The students have also been learning via virtual platforms. It is time to accelerate their learning by providing real world experiences in which the students can relate.

The students being exposed to this laboratory activity are required to take a state assessment which affects their overall final grade for the course. The students need as much exposure to standard-based activities to help them not only retain information but to think critically as well. Being able to apply what they have learned is fundamental to their success in the course.

My Project

Students reading and comprehension levels vary from elementary to high school at the my school. The implementation of Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) has been difficult for students since it requires a lot of reading. The students are more tactile learners and need manipulative to better grasp concepts. Incorporating the lab materials with the ADI will enhance students understanding of blood type and inheritance.

Genetics is a difficult topic as it is an abstract, microscopic concept.

As evident in the state assessment data, students are beginner learners. The materials will be used to enhance the level of comprehension of the topic. The lab is a standard-based investigate which is applicable to the real world and one which the students have some connects.
