Adequate Flooring and Ballet Barres to Help Dancing Stars

Help me give my students ballet barres to encourage proper posture for exercises and adequate flooring to provide a safer option that is indicative of dance.

My Students

I teach wonderful inner-city middle school students who love to dance. Most of these students cannot afford dance lessons outside of school. Each day they come to class, I witness how excited they are to learn.

My students express to me often that dance is a great outlet for them emotionally.

They often add, when they are stressed, dance is a way they can have fun. I love teaching these students for these very reasons.

My Project

The students are extremely excited about having proper dance equipment. They say it will make them feel important like they are in dance class. I find having these resources for inner-city students in the dance program will not only enhance the class, but also allow them to explore the joys of dance with basic class necessities.

In ballet, we do not have a sufficient amount of ballet barres or adequate flooring for the students.

Ballet barres are substituted with chairs which causes many dancers to slump over verses standing with the proper posture to properly execute exercises. The Marley flooring is needed because it is more indicative for dancing. The surface is safer than the current carpet in our dance area. This flooring is also safer for turns and jumps in class and it is portable which provides safety in our performance space.
