The students are extremely excited about having proper dance equipment. They say it will make them feel important like they are in dance class. I find having these resources for inner-city students in the dance program will not only enhance the class, but also allow them to explore the joys of dance with basic class necessities. In ballet, we do not have a sufficient amount of ballet barres or adequate flooring for the students. Ballet barres are substituted with chairs which causes many dancers to slump over verses standing with the proper posture to properly execute exercises. The Marley flooring is needed because it is more indicative for dancing. The surface is safer than the current carpet in our dance area. This flooring is also safer for turns and jumps in class and it is portable which provides safety in our performance space.
