Addressing SEL Needs to Achieve Classroom Success

Help me give my students free school and hygiene supplies to help remove barriers to learning, and ultimately, help them focus better on their studies and boost academic achievement.

My Project

Fulfilling students' social-emotional learning (SEL) and physical needs is essential for their academic success. SEL helps students develop self-awareness, emotional regulation, and interpersonal skills, which are crucial for navigating the complexities of the classroom environment. When students feel emotionally secure, supported, and able to manage stress or conflicts, they are better equipped to focus on learning. The first step to this can be forming connections with other students but first students must be confident enough in themselves. Moreover, SEL fosters a positive classroom culture, enhancing collaboration, empathy, and motivation, all of which contribute to a student's ability to engage and succeed academically.

Meeting students' physical needs is equally important.

The items included in this project that address components such as hygiene and school readiness will allow students to enter the classroom and only have to focus on learning. By providing items that help make sure students most basic needs are met (toothbrushes, deodorant wipes, school supplies like paper and pencils) students are more alert, attentive, and capable of absorbing new information. Conversely, unmet physical needs can lead to distractions, fatigue, and behavioral issues, hindering their ability to perform well in the classroom. Therefore, addressing both SEL and physical well-being creates a strong foundation for students' overall academic success.
