My Students

At South Pointe we have a very diverse student body through both ethnicity and socioeconomic level. Our students come from a large surrounding region that includes Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Canton, Wayne, and Belleville and the band program reflects this diversity as well! This is great in music class as we are always working together to perform at the next concert. The cooperation and diversity is truly what makes South Pointe a great school to be at.

My students are very self-motivated.

They have excellent problem solving skills and always try to find the answers themselves. They are also great at helping each other if they see a classmate is struggling. I see their drive and eagerness to learn every day and my goal has been to find ways to challenge them even more!

My Project

I am very excited about a project that was funded, gratefully much earlier than expected, providing my general music class with ukuleles! The ukuleles should arrive soon and shortly after my 5th graders will start playing them.

I want to make sure that this unit stays on track.

Having two additional ukuleles and a lot of extra strings will ensure that every student has an instrument in their hand. Being prepared for broken strings is important as it will be very frustrating to have these new instruments and not be able to play them because of one broken string. Additionally, this book will provide more songs for the students to learn and give them the chance to explore reading Tablature. I hope you consider helping this project out!
