My students need some extra supplies in our classroom as our class configuration is changing and I'll be working with many more students at once who are in need of additional supplies and tools.
My students are special ed/special needs students who would benefit greatly from enhancements in our classroom. I'm a newly credentialed teacher who came into the school approximately 9 weeks after school started and replaced a long-term substitute. I'm teaching these 6th-8th grader, Mild-Moderate Special Ed. students Study Skills (improved study habits, math, language arts, science, and social sciences). I would love to bring more needed classroom enhancements into my classroom to help create a space of ease for more powerful learning and work production.
My Special Ed classes are in a Title I school (low-income) with students of varying ethnic backgrounds and learning issues ranging from ADHD, autism, mood disorders to a multitude of learning disorders.
Our middle school is in a small beach community with an incredibly dedicated and caring staff. I hope I can live up to my students' needs and do 'right' by them!
My Project
We are changing our class configurations to one with more pull out students and a larger number in our study skills classes. With more potential noise and need, my special ed students would benefit from more supplies in the classroom. I am trying to increase the number of non-typical seating arrangements with noise cancellation opportunities, and wiggle reduction.
Many of my students have issues with attention, organization and work completion; I am hoping we can obtain some much-needed supplies to assist our executive functioning challenges for this and next year.
These new supplies and classroom tools with help me to reach most of my students at one time. Since we will be increasing the number of students in my classes, we could really use: extra wiggle seats, having enough lap desks for the alternative seating we already have, pencils and pens to help have students prepared, folders to give to each student to teach and increase executive functioning skills (and increase work output), a cutter is for science and social science projects done in our study skills class, and the larger timer will be used to help students start time managing better.
