Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are a dynamic group of special education learners with a strong desire to grow. They reside in a high poverty urban area and attend a Title I elementary school in the center of the city. Some are newcomers who are still learning the English language.
Though my students face obstacles inside and outside of the classroom every day, nothing impacts their motivation to learn.
My students set academic, behavioral, and personal goals. They monitor their progress and make plans to improve. They come to school each day with a positive attitude and the belief that they can accomplish anything.
My Project
Reflex Math is a research-based instructional technology program which allows learners to master addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts while playing games and having fun!
We were chosen to participate in a free trial nearly two years ago, and my students STILL have not stopped talking about Reflex Math.
To be honest, neither have I! My students made tremendous gains in skills and confidence through regular participation in the program. Not only did they show progress on their IEP goals, they also began to attempt more challenging problems and increased their participation in class. Additionally, the program adapts to meet the academic needs of each individual student. It also includes language supports for English learners. These factors are huge in my diverse special education classroom. Reflex Math will allow my students greater success in all areas of math through fact fluency mastery.
