My Project

My 6th graders are amazing readers and writers. I work in an urban district in Kalamazoo, MI with a diverse set of students. In order to encourage a love of reading that is in my students, and motivate those that are working on their love of reading, I need to get current, relevant, diverse texts in the hands of my kids.

Your donation puts diverse books in the hands of my students.

Not only is the goal to build our classroom library, but the goal is to make it so students never utter the phrase, "I can't find anything I like to read!" I want books that pull kids in and have the power to transform even my most reluctant readers into bookworms and lifelong readers.

We need more books in our classroom library to keep kids reaching for good books! Kids need different kinds of books that are mirrors of who they are and windows into other worlds, languages, cultures, and lives. My students grow with and alongside great books to read.

By helping to support this project, you are helping to put books in students' hands.

I love making current and high-interest books available to students, and it just gets better if those books come in all shapes and sizes. From graphic novels like The Babysitter's Club series and Marvel's Miles Morales to new middle grade fiction like Amari and the Night Brothers, I am so excited to get this set of books in front of my middle school students!
