Help me give my students updated games to play during speech therapy. Board games such as Don't Wake Daddy, Trouble, and Candy Land, help promote language development, turn taking skills, and social skills during sessions.
We use board games on a daily basis in the speech room. Although my students think they're simply "having fun" when they come to speech, I have a multitude of skills that I am targeting without them knowing. Not only are games motivating, but they also help students improve their social skills, turn taking skills, joint attention, and problem solving abilities. Games also aid students in building vocabulary, categorizing, inferencing, and narrative development.
Mary Poppins once said, " In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun" and I truly believe that fun is the key to success in building speech and language skills.
When I walk into classrooms to pick up my speech students, other non-speech students beg to come with us to speech because they have heard how fun speech is. I love that my students love to come to speech. Having a fun, loving, environment makes learning new and challenging skills so much easier.
I have been serving speech and language students for over 9 years and my room is filled with games that I had accumulated over time from garage sales and thrift stores as a new clinician. My games have been well loved over the years and it is time to replace broken boards and missing pieces with new and complete games. The clear plastic pouches will also help me save space on our game shelf. I have also requested a gift card to Teachers Pay Teachers to help purchase articulation and language activities that can be pared with the board games that I am requesting. Please help me continue the fun in speech by refreshing our games and materials.
