My students are from Lewiston, Maine which is a notoriously low-income area. Many of my students come from low-income households. Lewiston is also a very diverse area. Many of my students were born in other countries, such as Angola, Djibouti, Somalia, and many others.
The class is a cohesive and supportive group.
The students pick each other up when they are down and support each other in their individual endeavors. My students are eager to learn and interested in learning in many different ways.
My Project
My students love to express themselves with drawings and color and many of them come from poor situations at home. Additionally, many of my students come from low-income households and are not able to bring materials to color and work with into school.
Now that it is the middle of the year, many of the classroom resources are depleted leaving students with nothing to color or work with.
These materials will help them because it will ease the stress that my students are feeling when they are asked to use materials they do not have. Having these materials in the classroom will also help students with common worksheets during class, and will help them express themselves.
I like to do a lot of activities with color and these materials will give students the chance to complete those assignments without the stress of needing their own materials. Additionally, my students can come from stressful home situations and drawing can be a very therapeutic activity for them. With these materials, I will be able to have more students drawing and coloring to lower their stress and increase the quality of their work in the end.
