You can help save our trees, remedy our budget situation, and promote childrens' learning all at one time!
I teach first grade in a school where the majority of the students are from low-income families. Our district is facing many budget cuts and it is doubtful that we will receive money for supplies. We have been asked to reduce our use of existing supplies, including paper.
We need to purchase a write and wipe (dry-erase) board, markers, and an eraser for each student in the classroom. This will cut down on our use of paper. We are beginning a new math program in our school this year (EveryDay Math) which calls for the use of dry-erase boards in doing math activities. These boards have one side which is plain and can be used for working math problems. The boards can be flipped over to reveal a side with handwriting lines to provide a space for writing stories, spelling words, etc. These boards can also be used for learning games. They can write their answers on the boards and then allow me to see if they correctly answered a given question or math problem. The possibilities of use for these boards are endless!
With your assistance, my students will have the materials they need to make learning more fun and productive. They will be able to use these boards in all subject areas and will be able to reduce use of paper in our classroom. I am confident that these materials will be a great addition to our classroom.
