Help me give my students iPADs or Fire 7 tablets so that they can be used for adaptive technology for my students with communication needs, occupational therapy needs, and Autism.
As a special education kindergarten teacher in West Philadelphia I get to work with the most incredibly little people every day. For most of my students, this is their first formal school experience. It is a time for them to learn structure and important foundational academic and social skills, but most of all to build positive relationships with their school community.
In my special education inclusion classroom, I work together with students and their parents to meet students where they are, and create individual goals and provide resources so that each of my students can reach their personal potential.
My Project
With a plethora of needs in our class, this technology will be invaluable. Students will be able to use iPads or Tablets to address communication needs, strengthen OT skills, and increase attention in order to make academic and social gains.
These devices can be used for small group instruction or to adapt work to meet the needs of individual students in my class.
Writing, math, and literacy lessons will be uploaded on to slides so that students can use their fingers to write with as they strengthen their muscles. Additionally, assessments can be adapted using the devices so that students have a better opportunity for success. Lastly, technology will be used to supplement reading and math instruction through online subscriptions to reading and math intervention programs.
