My Project
Children with autism need a learning environment that is simple, constructive, and adaptive to meet their individual needs while learning. I want to provide my students with flexible seating alternatives to allow then to move, wiggle, and develop gross motor skills all the while still attending to the tasks at hand. Whether the students are at their desks, attending to whole group instruction, reading quietly in the classroom library or receiving one on one instruction from me as their teacher, students will benefit the most through adaptive seating.
Providing noise canceling headphones will give my students the ability to tune out the distractions around them and stay focus while attending to instruction or daily activities.
These headphones will be used in everyday activities when needed, in the classroom, on the playground, walking in the hallways, or while eating in the cafeteria. When we give students the ability to tune out the excess noise around them, they are able to stay calm and focused throughout the day. Adaptive supplies, such as pencil grips and scissors will provide my students who need extra support with fine motor skills to be able to work independently while continuing to develop those skills.
As a first year teacher, teaching special education, I want to provide my students with a calm environment with flexible seating options and free of distractions so that they are able to learn and grow. These supplies will give my students and my classroom the assistance needed to be all that they can be.
