Adaptive Focus Tools for Students in Title 1 Middle School

My Project

I am a special education instructional assistant. There are 28-40 students in each classroom I support. It is difficult for students to focus on instruction in such crowded classrooms with very few adaptive resources. I have a small supply of fidgets that I pass out to students, but I am looking for some that 1) do not make noise; 2) cannot be used as projectiles; and 3) are small enough to allow students to fidget without distracting those around them (by pounding on the desks, flicking pencils, etc).

I have expectations for when my students use fidgets in the classroom to help make them a productive tool and not a distraction to their learning.

I often tell my students: "This is a tool to help you focus. It is not a toy. You must be on task; the fidget should not be distracting you. Do not distract classmates with the fidget. Be gentle: I won't replace them if they break. The fidget should not make noise. I need all fidget back by the end of the period." Each student must read and agree to the expectations before they get a fidget for the period.

It would be great to give my students options for sensory toys to support their focus even better when they are completing their work. Thank you!!
