My students need 40 supplies for arts and crafts sensory activities. These supplies include colored construction paper, colored ink pads, people shapes, paint brushes and tempera paints.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a class for children with severe and profound mental disabilities. The children range in age from 6-8. They come from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. Some of the children are nonambularoty, nonverbal, and they all require adult assistance to complete day to day tasks. Their disabilities incude cerebral palsy, epilepsy, vision, and speech impairments.
This is a new class and we do not have many supplies. The school has been very supportive in providing materials, but we are asking for help to find funding for extracurricular activities and sensory activities for the children.
These art supplies will provide these children with the opportunity to create their own works of art. Many of them will be able to put their hands in paint independently and create work that is truly theirs. The art supplies will also provide a variety of tactile experiences for the students. These supplies include colored construction paper, colored ink pads, people shapes, paint brushes and tempera paints.
You will make it possible for the students in my class to create their own art work to display and be proud of in the classroom, in the school, as well as in the community. It will give them a chance to express themselves and their abilities.
