The students I work with are extraordinary! They teach me much more than I teach them! Their individuality is second to none as they each are learning to be their own leaders. These students come from low-income households, and our district has qualified for free school lunch based on these low economic numbers.
We are learning skills that are vital to becoming successful and productive members of society, where we focus on improving ourselves and not comparing ourselves to others.
We celebrate all successes and learn that success does not have a measurable size, for each is worthy of praise! We strive to be the best we can, daily.
These students have differentiated needs which are related to developmental, cognitive and health challenges, and all of them have the potential to make proficient growth this school year, academically and personally, so any additional resources that I can help provide them will only increase their chances of success!
My Project
We work in a small space and storage is an issue for us. In an effort to get creative and adapt, I decided that hanging baskets with retractable pulleys from our ceiling would be a great way to easily store items we use often! The baskets and pulleys will help us achieve that! The other ceiling hooks will allow us to put up curtain dividers, to create privacy, when we do assessments.
This year has been a hybrid year of in-person and at-home learning; a desktop camera would be a nice addition for students to have better quality videos for their home learning.
I have made do with my personal phone and a document camera for creating learning videos for my students, but I want the learning they experience at home to be as successful and as engaging as in-school advising.
As a special education teacher, I teach multiple areas: social, adaptive, math, writing, language, spelling, reading, even American Sign Language!
