Being asked to describe my students has always been a challenge for me, because I can not describe them as a whole. My students are all individually and unique, and not blank description will ever shed light on their uniqueness and passion and their possibilities, which are endless.
No students work harder to obtain independence then my students do!
Working in a Special Education High School, has taught me so about the ability and determination of a person, and that goes for my students and the staff that work in our building. As a staff we know our students CAN and we know we are just the bridge that our students need to get over to make it happen. We will forever support our students in every challenge they may have, but we are also their biggest cheerleaders along the way.
Not everything will come easy to my students, but their determination is inspiring. Looking back on your school years you might think, "oh that teachers inspired me to.." but looking back at my career I think, "oh those students inspired me to go further and fight harder for them"!
My Project
Adaptive equipment is something our school uses often for a variety of reasons. We have very often seen a student struggle and figured out creative ways to alleviate that struggle. Why should a student not be able to choose and answer on a smartboard because he/she simply can't reach it from their wheelchair.
The key to success is often the ability to adapt.
Simple items like pointers, visual timers and answer buttons are what our students need to be an active member of their classroom community.
