I teach a wonderful class of 2nd graders in Utah. My students and I are part of a school that is a 'year-around' school. This means our school has near a 1000 students from K-6th grades that start the end of July and goes to the next July. We have our school library where we get to check out only one book a week because of the large number of students attending our school. My students love reading and exploring books! However, we need more take home readers to read with our parents. When students read with us at school and then take that same book home to read with their parents, we have a school/home connection that is so important for developing great readers! My students love sharing what they are learning at school with their families at home. I love that! My students love reading many types of books each and very day and that means we go through a lot of books!
These 2nd graders love to read about animals and many other types of informational books.
We are asking for funds to cover the cost to purchase more books for our classroom. Thank you!
My Project
I will use this project's readers to teach my 2nd graders reading skills using these animal books. My students will use these readers with their classmates and then take home to read with their families. These readers will help bring a school and home connection.
Having a classroom full of available books to choose to read by students and then to read again at home will help my 2nd graders become super readers!
Each day my students have a power hour reading time with me, their teacher and our reading aide. We send home a reader each day and go through many books. We are looking for interesting and fun books to read in our reading groups. 2nd graders love informational books about animals and look forward to taking these books home to share with their families.
