My students need activity tables for station based activities. Movement from one station to another will increase students' performance, motivation, collaboration, and engagement.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a special education teacher in a low socioeconomic Title I school, all the students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. My class consists of 13 students. My kids are faced with many challenges in and outside the classroom. They are academically below grade level. Many of my students come from a single parent home. Although my kids have varying disabilities, (Learning Disabled, Autism, Emotional Disturbed, and Mentally Handicapped). They are eager to learn and succeed. I want to provide a atmosphere that is safe, and engaging. Help me engage and inspire my students by becoming a partner in their learning.

My Project

My students perform best when they are not required to remain seated at their desk. I have found that having them move about the classroom has proven to be beneficial both academically and behaviorally.

Having tables instead of traditional desks will allow me to introduce flexible seating.

Since my students are required to work in stationed activities throughout the day, having three tables instead of thirteen desks give the students ample room to move about the classroom without clutter.

Not having students assigned to a specific seat gives me the flexibility to assign students to work on different teams whether it be of mixed abilities or tiered abilities.

Having students move about the classroom also helps release excess energy.
