This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are some of the sweetest, hardest working children you will ever meet. Despite the many obstacles life has thrown their way, they show up excited and eager to learn each day. They're ready to give their best, and I meet them head on with challenges to help them grow and develop into exceptional students, friends, and leaders!

My students need materials that meet their wide range of developmental abilities.

Our school is a Title I school. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. An entire wing of our school is dedicated to pre-k to fifth-grade children with various special needs. I have the joy of teaching our Pre-k to 2nd-grade students with intellectual disabilities. These present themselves in many ways, from ADHD, to communication issues, sensory impairments and more. I am so appreciative of the many generous DonorsChoose.org supporters who help me bring exciting new materials into my classroom for my children!

My Project

Children with special needs come in all shapes and sizes.

When toddlers in my district our diagnosed with an intellectual disability, my preschool classroom may be their first experience with our school system.

A Tree Top Activity Center will be a centerpiece of fun and engaging learning experiences! With colorful bead runs, animal themed gliders, and so many hands-on opportunities, this activity center will encourage fine motor play, problem solving skills, reaching and grasping, and imaginative play.

The puzzle-shaped blocks and wood block stacking game will provide ample opportunities to practice social and language skills as they interact and learn to play with other students.
