Activities to Support Financial Literacy for Students with Intellectual Disabilities
Help me give my students supplies and activities to learn about money and increase their financial literacy.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Miller's classroom raised $585
This project is fully funded
Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
At my school, more than 90% of students are Latino, and more than 99% come from low-income households. The students in my class have intellectual disabilities- moderate/severe. They are curious, kind, and fun-loving young adults who require visuals and manipulatives to support their learning.
Many of my students benefit from incorporating hands-on materials into our activities, which allows them to engage and participate in money concepts such as counting, sorting coins, matching coins and bills, and number identification while also practicing the use of small motor functions and hand-eye coordination.
They will use these hands-on materials to expand their math money skills. I will supplement this kit by using materials and ideas from Teachers Pay Teachers. I will also need an organization cart to organize and hold supplies.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
