My Project
In our Women’s Studies elective, students are learning about the powerful contributions, struggles, and achievements of women throughout history. To deepen their understanding and make learning more personal, I want to give students the opportunity to express what they are discovering through creative art projects. With supplies like watercolor sets, sketchbooks, colored pencils, markers, and collage materials, students will create original works such as activist art, identity collages, and historical zines that connect to the women and movements we study.
These creative activities will allow students to process and internalize complex historical themes like resilience, justice, leadership, and identity in a meaningful and personal way.
By creating art, students won’t just be memorizing facts — they’ll be reflecting on how history shapes identity and how activism can inspire change. This approach will also help students build critical thinking and communication skills, as they will need to interpret historical events and ideas visually and creatively. Our goal is to give students new ways to engage with women's history and to see their own experiences reflected in the stories they learn.
With your support, we can transform our Women's Studies classroom into a vibrant space where students use creativity to honor women's voices and envision their own roles in shaping the future. These supplies will open doors for students to connect emotionally and intellectually with the past, while building pride, empathy, and a sense of empowerment.
