My fourth grade class consists of an incredible group of 9 and 10 year olds that attend our Title I school in Howard, WI. They are a diverse group of learners who spend their days collaborating and learning from each other. In my classroom, students are encouraged daily to grow in their confidence as learners and to truly take pride in their learning by always giving their best in their individualized goals. I want my learning environment to be differentiated to meet their learning needs and individual learning styles. Every day my students recite a pledge of intentions we've agreed on as a class. In our classroom "we want to be safe and use our tools to be responsible and proactive leaders who make, work on, and grow in our goals every day." Having a learning environment that allows them choice in their seating options will increase their engagement and their success in their daily goals as a learner.
My Project
I have witnessed the benefits of having flexible seating options in previous classrooms and hope to add even more variety to my students' seating choices in their learning. Flexible seating allows for students to choose their tools to help them be successful in the classroom.
Students will love the freedom and flexibility to move around the room to find a seating option that works the best for them.
Options such as wobble stools and lap desks will give students the ability to learn in an environment that meets their needs. I believe flexible seating options will help my students be more focused and engaged in the classroom.
