Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
They are active, love to learn and thrive off of positive reinforcement. My third graders face many challenges every single day living in a high gang and low income-high poverty area. The majority of my 30 students are English Language Learners and 92% of them receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch every day. Although they face these challenges on a daily basis, every single one of them love to come to school, are eager to learn, and persevere each day! My goal is to create a comfortable and positive environment to foster their potential while inspiring them to become lifelong learners.
My Project
With the support of donors like yourselves, I have begun creating a flexible/active learning environment for students to succeed. My scholars are in need of additional flexible seating options in the classroom to help them stay focused and engaged.
Movement increases brain activity and flexible seating improves student success.
By bringing in alternative seating options, my students can choose what types of seating they need to help them be successful. With your help, if sitting at a desk is too uncomfortable or distracting, they can grab a portable lap desk and sit on the floor. My students can also have the option of grabbing wobble cushions that will allow them to wiggle, rock and move to keep their young brains alert and more focused on the tasks at hand. Every child is unique. Their personalities, their motivations, the background information they bring to each lesson, the way they learn...it is all different from one child to the next. It is unreasonable to assume that all children can sit in the same spot all day and be actively engaged. Not every child is the same and not every child can FOCUS the same. With your support, you are not only helping to increase focus and engagement, but you are contributing to the overall academic success of my current and future students.
