Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine a classroom filled with curious , enthusiastic, and global minded first graders eager to learn and read. In our dual language classroom my students are immersed in the Spanish language. My students spend half of the day in Spanish and the other half in English. In total I have 44 students and half of them speak mostly English at home. Yet, they come into my classroom eager and ready to learn Spanish.
It is truly wonderful to see students , whose first language is English, that are able to read, speak and write in a second language.
I help my students understand the importance of their bilingualism and biliteracy . It amazes me how much their young minds are able to grow in just a few months. They are becoming life long readers in Spanish !
My Project
My first grade readers need a place to read and work comfortably. By adding bean bags to our classroom library my students will have a comfy place to read. I want my students to want to read in the library everyday! They need durable seating that will not wear out in a month. My students will benefit from bean bags that will let them read independently or next to a buddy all year long!
Young learners are energetic learners !
Have you ever found yourself moving your feet or tapping a pen while sitting in chair. it can take a lot of work to focus and think ! Now imagine a six year old trying to focus in a classroom everyday! Chair bands will help my first graders conquer their wiggles, in a healthy way, by letting them bounce and work at the same time! The chair bands will help them focus, think, and have fun bouncing their feet. Each student will have a chair band that they can choose to use at their seat. These bands are very durable, quiet, and kid friendly! My classroom needs a chair band for each student so that they can all benefit from such a wonderful addition to our class!
Last but not least, my classroom needs new book bins to store our books. Every week my students choose books to read which they get to keep in their own book box. We have used cardboard boxes , which did not last very long, and ziplock bags, that did not fit most books. Our books are very special to our class and I want to teach my students to value and take care of them. By having strong plastic book bins each student will have their own bin to store their books.
