Active Learning Needs an Activity Table

My Students

My Title I elementary school is located in East New York, Brooklyn. We are a wonderful mosaic of different cultures and backgrounds with many different family structures. We celebrate our students' differences with a variety of programs and teaching method with the goal of each child's success.

As the Reading Coach, I work with children in the lower grades who are struggling with reading and literacy skills.

Some children are also learning English speaking skills.

I love working with my children and know that with my support and our school's nurturing environment they can, and will succeed.

My Project

My reading classes are a hub of activity and learning with students sitting in small groups or working independently. As per the Balance Literacy model, I take small group to my table to work on particular reading and literacy skills and strategy. The problem is getting everyone in a configuration where all can see the books and materials at the same time.

I'm requesting an activity kidney-shaped table which will be used for my small group instruction.

This table has a shape that is conducive to one-to-one attention from me. It empowers the children to be part of a "reading team".

I'll use the table throughout the day with all my different grades and students. It will make such a difference in the quality of my instruction. I'm so excited about having this new flexible furniture.
