Help me give my students a classroom with flexible seating, like the active learning stool and exercise ball, allowing my students to move freely, reduce the stress of prolonged sitting, and simultaneously develop excellent posture and gain exercise.
From my perspective as a teacher in Kaneohe, incorporating active learning chairs like wobble stools and exercise balls, alongside a robust social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum, will profoundly benefit my students. These flexible seating options are designed to help my students release pent-up energy, reduce the stress of sitting still, and ultimately improve their focus by optimizing physical well-being. Beyond the physical advantages of better posture and increased subtle movement, active seating contributes to a more student-centered environment, fostering greater autonomy and engagement in their learning. Simultaneously, an explicit SEL curriculum directly teaches crucial skills such as self-awareness, self-management, and responsible decision-making.
My ultimate goal is to optimize student learning by seamlessly integrating the active learning stools and exercise balls to promote physical activity, improve posture, reduce disruptive behaviors, and enhance collaboration among students.
This powerful synergy will create a classroom where students are not only physically comfortable and ready to learn but also emotionally intelligent, socially adept, and prepared for greater academic and personal success.
What makes my students so special here is truly the amazing mix of who they are and where they come from. I see it in how they connect with each other, the thoughtful questions and ideas they bring to our discussions, the things they're truly excited about, and the unique perspectives they share – it's all woven into the fabric of our classroom. It's in those little moments when they show aloha for one another, the individual talents they display, and the different stories and experiences they bring from our island classroom community. They really make our Kaneohe classroom a vibrant and wonderful place to be.
