Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Help! Our classroom library is limited and in desperate need of thought provoking, attention grabbing, diverse books!

My class, better known as Team 210, is compiled of 33 energetic, eager to learn fourth grade students.

These 33 students reside in an urban, poverty stricken Illinois neighborhood. They come from families in which English is not their first language and parents work long hours. Despite such social economic challenges, Team 210 as well as our school is striving for successful futures! We are a school that believes all our students can reach their full potential and make a difference in our city and world. Thus, Team 210 always comes to school ready to learn and share. Throughout our day we are engaged in learning though cooperation, discussion, hands on activities and rigorous readings. Our day begins with a morning chant in which students excitedly stomp and clap a promise to do their best for the day. I believe this chant captures Team 210's work ethic and outlook: "Do your best, nothing less, pay the price, read it twice, nothing to it, but to do it, don't blend in, blend out!"

My Project

By choosing to donate to the expansion of Team 210's library, you will be making an impact on the reading skills of 33 lives. My students will have the opportunity to select and read books from a rich variety of levels, genres and topics. Through these books, my students will be able to practice how to independently read, think about and interact with text. My students' reading fluency and reading comprehension skills will progress and strengthen.

Providing students with a rich variety of text and choice has the power to affect change.

My students will have the opportunity and luxury to read books that interest them. In turn, they will improve their reading skills and become life long readers. The more reading opportunities Team 210 has the brighter and more successful their future will be. Please help make a difference in their lives so they can make a difference in their families' lives.
