"Gather around the computer to see the paintings of Pablo Picasso, students. If you are in front, please kneel for those students in the back." This is how I attempt to teach a lesson about an artist using the technology provided by the school.
With the lack of funding and priority in technology, my students are given limited access to the necessary skills needed in a technologically advanced world.
I try to use the available technology to help my students learn new research skills and provide them with updated visuals, but it is sorely lacking.
I have a diverse group of students that come from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds. There are some that have very limited access to any technology.
Parents are very involved in and out of the classroom environment.
My Project
The laptop notebook will allow me the mobility to use the projector to aid my ability to teach the students new research skills and access more visual examples of lessons that are taught. I will use it specifically to show them pieces of artwork when learning about the featured artist of the month, show them short video clips and images when learning about ecosystems, and show live webcasts for specified events for social studies.
This updated technology will engage and motivate my students to use the information learned and know they can also access this when they are ready. They will also be more prepared to enter a world of technology.
I believe that students need to stay technologically savvy because this is now our world.
The schools cannot provide enough funding to stay up-to-date with all technological materials. The laptop would provide the students a new media to access and learn from. They will know that our world is no longer just limited to paper, pencils, and books. Our world is larger, and they must know how to access it appropriately and remain current with their peers.
