In Westwood we are not only a community, we are a family. Our small school district is made up of TK through 12th grade. We average about 200 students total. This coming year it is projected that I will have my largest single-grade level class in my six years at this school. My passion is with First Grade but some years I also teach Second in a combination classroom.
Growing up in a small town can be both rewarding and challenging to a child.
Here, everyone knows who you are and they want to see the best from you. Teachers can really get to know your strengths and interests and push you to succeed. With that comes the challenges of diversity and lack of resources. Some students will never experience things that a student who lives in a city can enjoy but we do our best to overcome. Our students may not have much but they appreciate what they do have.
My Project
Our busy class is in need of wobble stools. Wobble stools keep bodies active during traditionally inactive working situations. We are working on building a flexible seating classroom to make the most of learning. When students are comfortable in their learning environment there is no limit to what they can achieve. Allowing students more freedom to choose their seats empowers them to take control of their own learning. When students can find the best fit for their own learning then great things start to unfold. You will see more communication, more collaboration, and-most of all- more accountability in individual learning.
