This is my very first year teaching and I am teaching at a Title I school. We are considered "highest poverty." Many of the kids in my class have been in temporary living situations throughout this school year. Despite these obstacles, my students are all eager to learn and participate. They love to use technology and be hands on as much as possible. Being able to provide them with an exciting learning environment is very important for their learning experience.
My Project
My students come from a variety of home lives. Some of them come to school hungry. Some come to school tired from a lack of sleep. Others come to school full of energy that they never got to use the night before. I also have students with sensory needs who constantly have to put pressure down and bounce. They are currently using chair bands and they are not helping as they did in the beginning of the year.
These students come to school eager to learn but filled with so much energy that sometimes they are not able to focus.
By having a flexible seating option, I know that my students will be able to focus and stay engaged more. The flexible seating will let them get out some energy or wake their bodies if they need to. I
The new seating will excite them knowing that they can wiggle or bounce without getting in trouble for doing so. They will have the freedom to move in their new seats without my fear of them flipping out of their normal chairs. While they are reading a book, they will be able to move around without having to take constant breaks to move around. Kids need to keep their bodies active to balance which means their minds will stay engaged.
