My Students

I teach a group of 20 motivated, compassionate and curious third graders at a wonderful school in Northern California.

My students are very active, and do their best learning when they're able to get their whole body involved.

They like to touch, build, create, and MOVE all the time. They are not interested in sitting for long periods of time, and who can blame them? They need a forward thinking classroom, filled with alternative seating options to accommodate their learning styles.

My Project

I have a lot of active children in my classroom, and while moving to the carpet to get work done, or using a standing desk are options, many still opt for their chairs - and make their own accommodations! I see a lot of leaning back to balance on two chair legs instead of four, pulling knees up onto the seat, one leg down and one leg up - they are very creative.

Wobble stools are shown to increase a student's focus and attention while providing them an outlet for excess energy.

I know providing this seating option to my children will appeal to them, and hopefully allow students to better focus their minds and bodies.

We will use the racquetballs to play a series of hand/eye coordination games to work on crossing the brain midline, building up focus and attention, teamwork, cooperation and perseverance.
