My Students

Second grade is the "best kept secret" in elementary school. The students love their teacher and learning but are just independent enough to do many things on their own. Their personalities and character really begin to shine in second grade as they make friends, become part of the community, and find their passions.

Second graders need direction from their teacher but love having the ability to choose and being treated like a "big kid." Providing lots of "guided choice" in the classroom allows for students to have this satisfaction while also helping them truly grow and learners and tiny humans.

My Project

We all know that reading and books are the foundation of children's learning. I want to provide my students with picture books in the classroom that activates their math knowledge and helps teach math concepts in a fun, interesting way.

The books I have requested are engaging to read aloud and cover 2nd grade math concepts.

I would love to start every unit we study in math with a read aloud, or two, and provide students with the books to read during their independent reading or choice time. These titles have been recommended in the curriculum we use at my school, and partner perfectly with the units and lessons.
