Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Write about yourself and your dreams....sounds easy. For my students even that prompt is difficult.
My students struggle in their classrooms being two or more years behind academically.
Often spelling and mechanics are areas of weakness that can not be addressed because the other students are far more advanced in their skills. I strive to teach writing in a multi-modal way such that they connect to writing in a memorable way, one that makes sense for them on a personal level. We teach writing in a highly visual way that is colorful and fun.
My Project
The materials we are requesting would allow students a chance to interact with writing in a fun way. For the younger students, they can practice spelling skills with magnets and practice blends to spell phonetic patterns. They can use stampers to practice spelling and dry erase posters to practice writing sentences.
For the older students, easy prompts to write about and fun dry erase posters that illustrate style would be exceptionally effective methods of instruction. The magnetic punctuation and pockets would allow them to have vivid visuals to practice and play with language arts and the writing process. All of these tools can be used in small groups, pairs or individually to practice and experience learning in a new way.
Our students traverse great obstacles each and every day just getting to school.
For the students who struggle due to a learning disability, life is that much harder. We want to keep their spirit alive, make school fun and keep them learning. Teaching in a whole brain, interactive way will help them achieve.
