My students need Healthy Snacks such as granola bars, baked chips, nuts, and water, as well as one lunch (sandwich) so that they can participate in an ACT Boot Camp After School and on a Weekend.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is in a rural minority community. Lots of our students have big dreams, but don't have access to enough opportunities to unlock their true potential.
While our funds and resources are limited, our students potential and drive is certainly not.
Students are eager to see real-world applications of what they are learning in school that extend further than the town limits that have confined many of their parents. Many of our students strive to be first-generation college, if not high school, graduates.
My Project
The following request is to feed the students who are going to attend the ACT bootcamp at our school. We are a 100% free and reduced lunch school so anytime we can provide students with healthy food options we are going to see an increase in attendance as well as see an increase in student engagement. Often times if student are asked to provide their own distance they will see them with hot chips and sugary soda or energy drinks or they will go without because they can’t afford anything.
Providing our students with healthy snack and meal options allows their complete focus to be on mastering the ACT, the gateway to their success.
These healthy snacks will include nuts, granola bars, fruit snacks, wheat thins, baked chips, pretzels, goldfish, crackers, and water. Our students are not traditionally successful on this exam, so we are hosting an ACT Boot Camp this semester to up scores of interested juniors and Seniors
