I teach Social Studies in grades 5th- 8th in a high poverty school. My students are very interested in learning about the American Civil War. With such a new focus on reading, I felt it would be beneficial to my students to use reading historical fiction to better understand the topic that they are already interested in.

Every year, my 5th and 6th graders study the American Civil War. Every class loves talking about this topic. I feel that my students would benefit from reading historical fiction to help them better understand the home fronts during the American Civil War.

My classes need 30 copies of the book "Across Five Aprils," one audio version, one homework pack, and one teacher's guide. These books will be kept in my classroom for future classes to enjoy.

With your help, my students can find the joy of reading historical fiction and might better understand certain aspects of the American Civil War.
