I need to have an in-school guitar for my Grade 3-5 music program.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Schorr's classroom raised $761
This project is fully funded
I teach general music to grades 3-5 in a Title I (high poverty rate) school in NY. Over 35 nationalities are represented in our student population. A guitar would be very useful in teaching the children music of other cultures, particularly Hispanic culture.
Our school has a very limited supply budget. I receive catalogues in the mail listing all the beautiful music equipment I could get for my program -- unfortunately this equipment costs thousands of dollars. My yearly supply budget -- in a good year -- is $500; this must be used for all of my supply needs.
I need this guitar to teach vocal music in a way that engages a diversity of backgrounds and interests. Guitar music appeals to all children -- it permeates the culture. With a good guitar, I can motivate -- perhaps, inspire -- my children and foster a life-long love of music, very few of whom experience live musical performance.
With this guitar I can teach songs from a huge variety of styles: American roots, Hispanic music, Rock, Popular Standards. Please be assured that this type of purchase would be all but impossible without the aid of a generous donor -- the money just isn't there in the supply budget (and our budget will only get tighter starting next year, we've been told).
