Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Our school is located in a very low socioeconomic area, and our students are often in need of great amounts of community assistance just to survive.
My students intimately know all too well the challenges our community is facing due to inflation and generational poverty.
My students are engaged, excited, and ready to roll up their sleeves and help to rebuild our school community through service. Our classroom is a safe space to be who you are and to ask for what you need.
If you asked my students what they need more of around campus that can be easily addressed they would say the availability of tissues. We are trying to encourage students to be independent and ask for help when needed... tissues, it is! The students want to normalize that we all need a little bit of help sometimes and there should be no shame in asking. Empowering our leaders to help take care of their own has come in the form of mobile pantries of necessities being maintained around campus and tissue is something that is in high demand! Tissues inside the classrooms was also something that we cannot ever have enough of to support our students. Help us to support the basic needs of our students and our student leaders to help their school become more successful by addressing a basic need.
