This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a first year teacher and because of this my classroom library is limited. I grew up with a love for reading and I want to promote that same love of reading in my classroom but in order to do that I need to resources to create a classroom library with a variety of books to target all interests.
My students are always asking questions and looking to find answers.
Some love to read while others don't. Our schools slogan is Read to Know, Write to Show and Learn to Grow. The first step, Read to Know, cannot be accomplished without books. I need books in my classroom as resources for my students to help those who don't quite like reading to learn to love it and to make sure that the students who already love to read continue to love it.
My Project
My students will use these materials to Read to Know. As a class we have a goal to read so many books in a month or year. Some students really dislike reading but I believe that if they had the right book for them they would learn to love it. In order to find those books for those students I need a larger selection in my classroom.
This project will make a difference by promoting a love of reading in my fourth grade classroom.
It will not stop just there, either, when students learn to love reading at a young age it sticks with them throughout the rest of their lives. My love for reading began in fourth grade and it still continues today. I hope to do that for my students as well.
