it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every day, I am amazed and impressed by my students' resilience and tenacity. Remote learning has presented many challenges for them, yet my students are doing their best to meet those challenges and continuing to learn. They are a diverse group with a wide variety of needs and a wide variety of experiences. Each brings a unique perspective and a unique contribution to our classroom community.
My Project
IXL is an online platform that has over 140 different literacy skills from levels ranging from Pre-K to 12 grade. It is great way for students to review and practice specific skills at home and at their own pace.
As a teacher, I can assign different skills to different students, and they can practice at their own levels, moving up as they achieve mastery of that skill.
This differentiation is especially important during remote learning so students can focus on the specific skills they need to master instead of repeating skills they already know or working on a skill they might not be ready for yet in whole-class instruction.
It is also an excellent tool to supplement curriculum for English Language Learners, especially high school EL students, who need more language support, but whose classes are more content-based. My former students have experienced great success when using IXL as a supplemental tool, and I am eager for this year's students to have the opportunity to achieve that same success.
