Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school serves a high number of socially and economically disadvantaged students. Most of my students qualify for free lunch in school. My fifth-grade class is very diverse in their academics. They range from far below basic to advanced levels. Some are students with special needs and accommodations and others are students who need enrichment. Some are English language learners while others are fluent in the English language. But they are all eager for education; however, the lack of resources prevents them from getting motivated and truly showcasing their talents.
Many of my students have a variety of hardships at home, but at school, I try to make it a positive place where they can grow, learn, and be successful.
They come to school with big dreams, and I want to provide the best learning environment for them.
My Project
The reading comprehension journals and reading strategy cards (summarize and compare & contrast) will strengthen and refine my students writing abilities, specifically in the Informational, Narrative, and Opinion genres. Through purposeful planning, rigorous instruction and tailored mini-lessons during small group instruction, I feel confident that my students will maximized their journal usage and improve their writing abilities.
A strong writer will always prevail.
Through a methodological process, my students will have the capacity to flourish as great authors and thrive in their future education. Establishing a strong foundation will be their greatest asset.
