I am a Resource Teacher at my school for grades k-2 and I serve students with special needs at a Title I school. I teach preschool for the first half of my day and then I see students with all types of special needs for the second half of my day. I have students with Autism, developmental delays, other health impairments and specific learning disabilities. They are all learning how to be successful in the general education setting. Some of my students are also English as a Second Language learners and receive ESL services. I give guidance to several paraprofessionals to help with my small groups and provide accommodations and modifications in their classroom. My students are all in the general education setting for most of their school day; some receive services in their classroom and some are pulled out for services, whatever they need to be successful in the general education setting. I provide inclusion services and need lots of materials to help my students make progress in their classroom. They are so fun, loving, and caring! I love seeing their smiling faces every day!
My Project
These materials will help students with special needs to be successful across all settings and throughout their school day. The Velcro, colored paper and laminating sheets will be used to create visuals and make interactive materials to meet needs and accommodate and modify lessons needed for students' individual needs. The noise canceling head phones will be used by students during fire drills, assemblies, and any other time it is too loud for them, but also so they can manage their needs themselves. The lap desks will be used for students sitting at the carpet during whole group lessons, and for those students who need to sit closer to the board/smart boards during lessons for visual purposes. The Chew Teethers will be used for those students who chew on their clothing and have oral fixations due to their disability, to isolate their chewing and also keep them focused. The fidget bands will be used on the chairs in their classrooms if the students need to move, with out moving around the room. These students will learn how to manage their needs in their general education setting.
